Chairman’s Report 2010
Welcome to every one for this year’s Annual General meeting of the Great Alpine Highway Group.
I would like to take this time to thank the members that take the time to regularly attend these meetings, as that is important if we are going to move forward as a group. I would also like to thank Ainsley for her work as Treasurer and Amber for all her work as Secretary.
We have only had a few meetings in the past year and for the most part we have been able to attract reasonable numbers, I note that on two occasions when we called meetings we were not able to get sufficient members to hold the meeting and that was disappointing. However the last 2 meetings have been well attended and we have been able to make some good head way on a couple of projects. I am of course talking about Visitor TV and the coffee table style 6 monthly newspaper. The encouraging thing is that we all appear to working likeminded and towards the same goal.
We have done a reprint the Great Alpine Highway brochure and with a wide distribution area they are disappearing fast. As a group we can not forget about the projects of the past and I am referring to the The Great Alpine Highway web site. We must continue to see it grow and be updated and at every opportunity get new members to join and advertise on the web site.
There are a couple of projects from the past that still need work and I am talking about the “Mile Stone” and “Points of Interest” projects along the Great Alpine Highway that we have talked about on a number of occasions but they need someone to pick it up and make them happen.
Financially we are in good shape but we all should be on the lookout to sign up new members to make sure we continue to grow.
With another year ahead which includes the Rugby World Cup we need to ensure that visitors to our region have as much information available as possible to ensure that we entice them to follow the The Great Alpine Highway.
